Replace a Faulty Sewage Valve Step-by-Step
Problem
Collector and section of DN500 sewage pipe was in poor condition, with the sectorization valve not functioning.
Solution
BC Solutions is the mechanical contractor for this job. Their recommendation - in low season, the installation of a by-pass was proposed so one of the pumps can be sectorized once the by-pass is in operation and an inflatable line stop is put in place to create a workable seal. The section of pipe in poor condition is cut and a new valve is installed.
Step 1
Installation of polyethylene graft finished in DN200 flange (for the by-pass) and DN250 (for the insertion of the inflatable line stop), in this case installation of gussets for greater resistance.
Step 2
Performing a pressure test on the installed grafts.
Step 3
Assembling DN200 bypass valve and hot tapping.
Step 4
Remove the coupon, install by-pass pipe, install DN250 valve, hot tap and install PeteStop® inflatable line stop equipment.
Step 5
Open by-pass and inflate PeteStop® inflatable line stop to create a workable seal.
Step 6
Remove old valve, weld idler flange to pipe and install new valve.
Step 7
Deflate PeteStop® and remove inflatable line stop equipment.
Result
The facility and mechanical contractor were impressed with the speed of the job and quality of the seal of the inflatable line stop system.
